in half the size, at half the price Delta Tau, the company regarded as setting the global benchmarks for precision motion control, has created what is, in effect, the first multiple technology, multiple axis low voltage motion controller. Controlling up to 8 axes of mixed servo and stepping motor types, the new Geo Brick LV is also half the size and half the price of conventional 8-axis controls. While the Geo Brick LV was originally designed to meet a specific customer requirement, the scope for applying the resultant new model is broad. Indeed, wherever a combination of motor technologies is encountered – such as in packaging machines, textile machines, gantries and robotics, manipulators and so forth – the new Geo Brick LV provides a compact, easily installed solution. The Geo Brick LV has two fundamentally new capabilities compared to the existing Geo Brick line, which is rated for 230VAC operation of 3-phase motors using IGBT power technology. First, the new Geo Brick LV employs inexpensive, compact MOSFET power stages to provide 8 axes capability at the size and price of 4 axes of the higher-power IGBT control. Secondly, it provides the option of adding a fourth leg to the power stage for each axis, permitting the control of motors with two independent phases – most commonly stepper motors. The Geo Brick LV comes as a single unit measuring less than 400 mm high by 100 mm wide by 180 mm deep (16” high x 4” wide x 7” deep).
